Illini EDge

The Illinois New Teacher Collaborative is proud to announce Illini EDge, a conference for recent University of Illinois graduates.

Would you like to have a head start your first year of teaching? Would you like to start your first year with specific and real-world plans for building relationships with students, establishing and maintaining behavioral expectations, and implementing classroom procedures and routines? Would you like to work together and network with others who will be entering their first year of teaching?

The Illinois New Teacher Collaborative invites you to the INTC Illini EDge. This event is for University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign teacher education graduates only (all grade levels and content areas) who will begin their first year of teaching in Illinois in the fall of 2017.

  • Bridge the gap between preservice courses and what you need to know and do to start teaching successfully
  • Learn by collaborating with others starting their teaching careers
  • Network with participants in the Beginning Teacher Conference
  • Exit with practical and workable plans for the fall
  • Hear a motivational speaker

You are encouraged to register even if you do not yet have a teaching position. This conference is a great way to network and build relationships, both locally and state-wide.

The IHotel is equipped with free wireless internet for participants. Please bring your device of choice.

Attendees are responsible for the cost of their own transportation and any additional personal expenses incurred.

This is a low-cost event thanks to the generous sponsorship of the State Farm Companies Foundation, the College of Education at Illinois, the Meemic Foundation, and the Network to Transform Teaching. Professional Development Hours credit available. Space is limited.

Extended Learning Opportunity
“How do I learn about and leverage local resources in my classroom?”

INTC is seeking to provide a space and framework for thinking about the above question in the 2017 BTC / Illini EDge Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 18. The 2017 ELO is an opt-in, post-conference session intended to give give BTC and EDge participants an opportunity to learn from experts on school-community engagement from the Champaign-Urbana and Chicagoland areas. These experts will share their experiences working with local communities, families, and students. They represent perspectives from in and outside of the classroom.

BTC / EDge participants who participate in the ELO will be grouped in a cohort of approximately 10-20 other like-minded teachers. The community engagement experts will work with this cohort,  sharing examples and giving advice on bridging the classroom and community. Then, the group will take time to process and apply lessons learned and establish goals. While establishing relationships with a school’s community takes time and will look quite different in our varied contexts, we hope that this experience will provide participants with a few ideas and plans for the upcoming school year.
